Abstract Requirements

It is highly recommended that you prepare and save the following information in a word processing document before you actually enter it into the online submission application. The submission application will time-out and you will lose anything you’ve entered.

Session Length – All Presentations will be scheduled for 45 minutes, including time for Q&A. We have eliminated the 105-minute Presentation length.

*A participant’s email address must be his/her business email. No personal email addresses (e.g., gmail, yahoo, etc.) will be accepted.

Limited to 1 Presenter and 2 Co-Presenters per abstract. Only the person entered as the Presenter on the abstract will be eligible for the conference fee waiver.

Selection Criteria

The Emerson Exchange Board of Directors Presentations Committee will review all submitted abstracts and will select Presentations that will be of high value to conference attendees.

  • Have an end User author and presenter with real world examples
  • Do not spam or submit the same abstract in multiple tracks. This causes more work for the track mentors and will not increase your odds of acceptance.
  • Include financial impact – Quantifiable Business Results
  • Use technical “how to” explanations
  • Be prepared to present 30 minutes of content (plus 15 minutes Q&A), if abstract is approved
  • Explain unique solutions to difficult problems, show innovation
  • Indicate clearly what value your presentation will bring to this year’s attendees (i.e., “what makes this presentation unique and worthwhile to attend?”)
  • Don’t include proprietary information, trade secrets, etc. and please pursue corporate approval early. Do not wait until June to start the legal / corporate review process.
  • Avoid negatively referring to other solutions, vendors, etc.
  • Refrain from “marketing/sales hype”
  • Ensure that your abstract accurately explains your proposed presentation, and vice versa. Nothing upsets attendees more than attending a session that’s not as advertised.
  • Ensure the session title accurately and specifically describes the presentation content.

Example of a well-written abstract. The most outstanding Presentation in each track will be awarded “Best in Conference”, with a formal presentation of this award at the conference.

Presentation Types

All submitted abstracts will be given the session type of “Presentation”. The “Presentation Type” will help clarify what kind of Presentation an attendee can expect when viewing an abstract and/or attending sessions at Exchange. During your abstract submission process, you will select one of the following Presentation Types:

All tracks (except Personal & Career Development track)

A presentation that summarizes a real-life success story about how Emerson products or services were used to upgrade a process, execute a project, solve a challenging application or other similar themes. Case studies reflect on a challenge, how the challenge was resolved and the business results achieved with the solution. 

A presentation typically from an industry or Emerson expert that aims to provide educational information on a technical subject. Presentations can range from basic fundamentals to advanced courses on a specialized topic. Examples of potential topics includes SIS, valve sizing, wireless network planning and others.

A presentation from an Emerson expert on a featured product, service or recent enhancement. Presentations will provide an in-depth technical overview of the product or service, highlight what challenges are addressed and describe what benefits can be realized from deploying the product or service. Presentations may include tips, tricks and examples of how products and services can be further utilized to help Users gain more value from their company’s investment. These sessions may also provide an opportunity to provide direct feedback to the Emerson product team.

2021 Presentation Tracks

Sessions are designed to illustrate applications of precision instruments for measuring pressure, level, temperature, flow and analytical composition of gases and liquids. Other sensing applications included are safety and reliability, machinery health and monitoring instrumentation. Additional topics may include more complicated device strategies and capabilities such as onboard analytics, diagnostics and wireless technology implementation.

Sessions are designed to illustrate methods for maximizing control and efficiency of industrial equipment and OEM machinery through proper design and application of solenoids, pneumatic valves and valve systems, cylinders and actuators and air preparation devices to provide control and generate power through usage of compressed air, oil, water and gas. Additional topics may include more advanced device strategies such as optimization of air usage, mechatronic design, machine safety requirements and integrated fieldbus and diagnostic technologies.
