2008 Industry Forums
- Power & Utilities
Agenda
Today representatives of the utility and industrial power
industries face a confluence of events that force them to make to
crystal-ball predictions and delay action. Expected carbon regulation,
rising fuel costs and conflicting state and federal regulations limit
choices and undermine the ability to plan effectively.
Capital investment is drying up, power demand is rising and supply is
shrinking. Is the sky falling?
Join us at the utility industry business forum where we will discuss
issues affecting the state of power generation. If you have on-site,
behind-the-meter industrial generating capabilities, utility-scale
capacity, or just an interest in the utility sector, this forum is for
you.
Panelists Mr. Edward Tatum, Vice President RTO & Regulatory Affairs, Old
Dominion Electric Cooperative, Mr. Dan Griffiths, Director of the Bureau
of Energy, Innovations and Technology Deployment at the Pennsylvania
Department of Environmental Protection and Mr. Larry Rice, Manager,
Business Development at Emerson’s Power & Water Solutions division will
explore the state of the industry and the great challenges we face.
Mr. Tatum will open the session by highlighting the top issues facing
the power industry today. Mr. Tatum will examine the current state of
national energy policy, the rising price of fuel, increasing capital
costs, the need for investment in the transmission grid and the effects
of upcoming climate change legislation on decision making.
Mr. Griffiths will discuss how the fragmented policy landscape is an
obstacle, not a barrier, to project development. Careful analysis of
this landscape followed by pertinent discussion with selected states
can uncover solid business opportunities. These discussions involving
state policy makers and utility and industry leaders will lead directly
to an understanding of how federal policy should be crafted and
structured.
Following the opening presentations, Mr. Griffiths and Mr. Tatum will be
joined by Mr. Rice to answer questions and provide a forum for
roundtable debate in which the audience is invited to participate.
So please join us Monday, September 29, at 2:00 p.m. for this
interesting discussion on the keystone issue of our day.
